Internet Business Blog

In my blog post: It’s not about the website, I wrote about the importance of taking certain steps after building a website to promote it online. Because more and more people start their online business and build websites, competition gets stronger and more things need to be done to get targeted web site traffic. There are niches where for a chosen keyword, it requires huge amount of time, money and effort to rank well in search engines. It doesn’t mean, however, that it can’t be done. On the contrary, you can rank high for many keywords. The key is to choose the right longtail keywords, use them to optimize your website properly and use the right online promotion methods.

Targeted web site traffic

It is important to understand that you need to apply various methods of increasing your online exposure – in other words, you need to become a multi-channel internet marketer. Just for a start, to make sure your website gets indexed quickly and will start getting targeted web site traffic:

  1. Submit it to at least the main search engines and Google, Yahoo, Bing webmaster tools, altogether with your generated XML sitemap.
  2. Open up several accounts with different Web 2.0 properties and start posting valuable content with links back to your main site.
  3. Go and make some good, valuable comments on do-follow, niche related blogs.
  4. Register with niche related forums and help others by solving their problems, having backlink to your website in the signature.
  5. Don’t neglect RSS Marketing. Thanks to some powerful, relatively inexpensive tools, you can take full advantage of your feed, build backlinks and drive more traffic to your websites.

These are just some of the cheap traffic methods. There are also borrowed and paid ones. What you need to remember is to use various methods of website promotion, be consistent, frequently create valuable and useful content.

Thanks to James Schramko and recommended by him internet marketing experts, I mastered many of the strategies to drive targeted web site traffic successfully.  You can find ten of them in a recently published ebook Traffic Ten. The book is a thorough, and extremely effective step-by-step traffic blueprint written by me and internet marketing expert Lillea Woodlyns. Traffic Ten is  based on several months of trial and error, testing tools and applying various methods of driving traffic to our websites.

We mention some of these resources in Traffic Ten, but certainly not all, which is why this cheat sheet has special value.

2 Outsourcing MindMaps, which show you all the important facts you need to know about outsourcing, how, where and what to outsource, to leverage your time and money.

Lillea and Justyna have put together a nice and easy guide for getting traffic to your website – well done.

Yes, I will admit- the book is phenomenal. We are promoting it in our BacklinksMarket store.

There are many ways to become successful online. It all starts within, with the right mindset, and from here you go and pick up the superb tools. The best one, is the right way of thinking. Knowing what to do and more importantly- what not to do.

Most bloggers only take advantage of the commenting. Worst they are just sending useless comments, spam comments as known by everybody, for their link building.

      Hi Cole,

Spam comments are really a nightmare!! However, the useless spam comments you mention, are not made by bloggers but robots. I know a lot of bloggers who make really great comments. Another thing is that it really takes time to make a really good, valuable comment after reading the post on someone’s blog :)

Blog commenting is one of great link building strategies and it can drive targeted traffic as well but when done properly (valuable, relevant comments on preferably niche related blogs).

    Hi Justyna

I have read your “ebook Traffic Ten” and would recommend it to anyone looking to drive traffic to their website.

Easy to read and easy to implement… even for a non techie like me!

Particularly like the way each topic is split into three sections…
    1 – What it is
2 – How to do it
    3 – Useful tools

Thanks for producing such a great resource in such an easy to follow format.

      Thanks Keith,

Awesome you liked the book and find it so much useful. Our main goal was to create it in an easy to follow and time saving format, using non techie language. We both remember also well how it was when we were starting out in internet marketing and were looking without success for such an easy to read and implement guide. :)

It is great to see and read a comprehensive guide, that will add up much value and respect your time.
We both know that when the amount of work rises, you need to be able to distinguish what is good, so it can save your time… and create more satisfaction.

Yes, you are totally right about “the importance of taking certain steps after building a website to promote it online.” Having a website is like opening a store in Siberia, without proper marketing, it remains an empty store. Looking forward to learning from you in the future :-)

Ya long tail keywords with low competition.

Niches like “weight loss” for example can be really tough.

Blog commenting has always been my favorite method of link building because I enjoy sharing knowledge, but these days most of them, like you said, use the nofollow attribute. Finding dofollow blogs these days is virtually impossible without buying a list of dofollow blogs. Social bookmarking is becoming more and more important backlink wise. Google is already using these sites in the ranking of website. It is the future of seo.

Great post although I haven’t read the book Traffic Ten :)

I would also like to add that blog comments are both useful and useless. You guys already know what’s the difference in between the two but I’ll focus more on the useful side. Getting genuine comments from ‘real’ people are a great way of self promotion. Putting up a great article/post that will definitely leave people posting up a comment is a sign that they’ve actually read your post and that they have something to say about it.

      Thanks!

There are so many great advantages of blog commenting! I like to learn new things when reading other blogs and by commenting to show gratitude to their authors for writing valuable articles :)

I must say, there is no point submitting to search engines. They don’t simply help. The rest four tips are definitely worth trying.

I agree that you’ve got to do a lot of different things to promote a website.

I think that Google really rewards a wide variety of different techniques. So it’s a good policy not to overdo just one of them. That expression “don’t put all your eggs in the one basket” is relevant here.

And social media is important too — especially Twitter. Not only does it generate clicks, but the search engines do take your Twitter activity into account when calculating rankings, apparently.
